How Sessions Work

Here are clear expectations about format, frequency, and outcomes—so you know exactly what to expect from my approach to therapy.

What You Can Expect

Therapy is a process, not a quick fix. Together, we’ll create a space to work through challenges, explore new perspectives, and build tools that help you feel more grounded and confident.

Most clients notice improvements after 12 sessions, such as:

• Improve stress management and emotional regulation

• Strengthen relationships and communication

• Clarify personal values and direction

Change takes effort—and it can feel uncomfortable at times. That’s normal. I’ll walk with you each step of the way as we move toward your goals.

The Flow of Therapy

First Session (Intake)

Your first session is about getting to know you. We’ll review how sessions work, discuss your main concerns, and begin building a foundation of trust.

Assessment (First Few Sessions)

Across the next 2–4 sessions, I’ll ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of your background, strengths, challenges, and relationships. This helps tailor therapy to your needs. If I’m not the best fit, I’ll provide referrals to a clinician who is.

Setting Goals

We’ll define clear, realistic goals that guide our work and create milestones to celebrate along the way.

Doing the Work (Ongoing Sessions)

Sessions focus on applying strategies, exploring insights, and practicing new skills. You’ll try things between sessions and bring your experiences back to refine the plan. We’ll review progress regularly and adjust as needed.

Wrapping Up (Graduation)

As you reach your goals, we’ll discuss next steps—reducing frequency or moving toward closure—so you feel confident carrying your growth forward.

Session Length & Frequency

• Standard sessions: 50 minutes, usually weekly or biweekly based on your needs.

• EAP (Employment Assistance Program) sessions (when applicable): 30 minutes, with a set number of visits determined by your program (typically 6–12 sessions) using a solution-focused approach.

We’ll decide together on the frequency and duration that best support your progress. If I’m away for vacation, training, or illness, I’ll provide as much notice as possible and assist with rescheduling.

Bottom Line

Therapy is a partnership. With consistency, openness, and effort, it can be a powerful investment in your life and relationships.
